If you are having problems with registering, logging in and staying logged in or with changing your details on the site, please check the information below before contacting our technical support.

I’ve tried to register but I haven’t had an email to activate my subscription.

I tried to register, but it says ‘The email address you entered is already in use or invalid. Please enter another email address’ and won’t let me get any further.

I get your fortnightly newsletter and/or tips emails but the site says I’m not registered.

I’ve forgotten my password.

I didn’t get an email with  the password change code in it.

I tried the password change code but it didn’t work.

I’ve forgotten my username.

I’ve forgotten my password and my username.

I’ve forgotten the email I’m registered with the site with.

I can no longer access the email address that I used to register with the site.

How do I change my details, such as my password, email address or forum name?

I've registered with the site but now I can't log in. I'm sure I'm using the right username and password.

I can log in, but then I get logged out as soon as I move to a new page and told I need to subscribe.

The email should come almost instantly, certainly within a couple of minutes, from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Please check your spam box if you have one.  You may need to whitelist this address if you have a whitelist facility.

If the email isn’t available please contact our technical support and ask them to manually activate you registration.

I tried to register, but it says ‘The email address you entered is already in use or invalid. Please enter another email address’ and won’t let me get any further.
Either you entered your email address wrongly, for example by missing the letter ‘k’ off  ‘.co.uk’ or you are already registered with the site – this does happen a lot as we have been around for over 10 years and you may have registered long ago and forgotten about it.

Try re-entering your  details again and if you get the same message, then use the  forgotten password and forgotten username instructions below to get your login details.

I get your fortnightly newsletter and/or tips emails but the site says I’m not registered.
Registering for the site and for the newsletter/tips  can be done separately, many people choose to only do one or the other. So, even though you get emails from us, that doesn’t necessarily mean you are registered with the site.

Click on the black ‘Login Form’ link at the top right corner of the screen and then click on ‘Create an account’ and complete the brief form.  When you submit it you will be told if your email address is already registered with the site.  If it is, you will need to use the ‘Forgot your username’ and ‘Forgot your password links to get your details.  Otherwise your new registration should work.

I’ve forgotten my password.
You can choose a new password like this:
Click on the black ‘Login Form’ link at the top right corner of the screen.
Click on 'Forgot your password?'.  You can also find this link below the login form at the bottom right of each page.
Enter the email address you are registered with on the site and click the submit button.
If you have not received an email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. within two minutes please check your spam or junk mail box.
Highlight and copy the code in the email and then click on the link in the email.
Paste the code and type your user name into the boxes that appear and click on submit.
You can now change your password and log back into the site.

I didn’t get an email with the password change code in it.

The most common reason for the code not working is a copy and paste error.  If you’re not sure how to copy and paste, there are instructions on how to do it here:

I’ve forgotten my username.
You can be sent your username like this:
Click on the black ‘Login Form’ at the top right corner of the screen.
Click on 'Forgot your username?'  You can also find this link below the login form at the bottom right of each page.
Enter the email address you are registered with on the site and click the submit button.
You will be sent an email with your username in it and you can log in in the normal way.
If you have not received an email from This email address is being protected from spambots. I’ve forgotten my password and my username.
First use the forgotten username instructions above.  Then follow the forgotten password instructions above.  You should now be able to log back into the site.

I’ve forgotten the email I’m registered with the site with.

I can no longer access the email address that I used to register with the site.

If the problem is that you’ve forgotten your login details and you can’t get an email sent to you with a reminder because you can’t access your registered email address, then you’ll need to contact our technical support.

How do I change my details, such as my password, email address or forum name?
Log into the site and click on the ‘Edit profile’ link at the bottom of this page:

You can change your forum name, your password and your email address but not your username.  If you need to change your username (which is not visible to anyone else) for any reason, you will need to contact our technical support.
You can also access this page by logging into the site and then clicking on the ‘Register’ link at the top right-hand corner.

I've registered with the site but now I can't log in. I'm sure I'm using the right username and password.
Do you have access to another computer? if so try entering the members area from that, it will at least tell whether the problem is with your computer.
Have you got the password and username saved. If so try logging in without using the saved details, just in case they're wrong.
 
Try clearing your Temporary Internet Files. In Internet Explorer go to Tools then Internet options then Delete Files then tick Delete all offline content then OK.
 
Have you changed or upgraded your computer, browser or any security settings recently, this may have caused problems.

If you're using internet explorer then you might want to try downloading the excellent, free Firefox browser from: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ You can use this as well as any other browser you have.

If all this fails, try using the lost password facility (see below).

If you are using Internet Explorer and having problems with the site then try viewing the site in compatibility view.  To do this either:

Click on Tools and then click on Compatibility View in the drop down menu.
OR
Click on the icon that looks like a document torn in two which should be between the bow with the web address oin it and the double arrow refresh button.

Alternatively, if you are having problems staying logged in to the site this may be because your internet browser or firewall are preventing cookies being stored. Our website needs to place a cookie on your computer so that it knows that you are a member as you move from page to page and download resources. The way that you enable cookies will vary depending on which browser and firewall you have. But in some versions of Internet Explorer, for example, you can enable cookies specifically for our website in the following way:
Open Internet Explorer
Click on Tools
Click on Internet options
Click on Privacy
Click on sites
Type www.benefitsandwork.co.uk into the 'Address of website box'
Click on Allow
Click on OK

Click on OK again.
