If he's happy to make a claim then there is no problem with you completing the forms, etc. on his behalf.

Thank you. But I know he will have to read what I have written. I showed him the descriptors earlier and just that has got him looking depressed. Can I phone the DWP and explain his low self esteem and just ask if I can be an appointee? Do you think they would have to have written doctors evidence re his low self esteem or could they accept my judgement and what I say to allow me being an appointee?

You can certainly ask to be his appointee, the DWP will evaluate him to see if it is necessary and if they agree, will appoint you.

Hi, I have just noticed that with my PIP the assessor gave me 2 points for preparing food as in d) but the DWP have given me 4 points as in e) . The d) is a prompting descriptor whereas the e)descriptor is for assistance and supervision. So do you think the DWP DM interpreted my evidence as me needing a higher level of support with preparing food and that the ATOS assessor saw it differently? Do the DWP DMs sometimes score differently from the ATOS assessor or could it be a mistake?

Re my son, I am thinking of him seeing a private educational psychologist to get an assessment for his autism in case he needs help if and when he goes to uni. Do you think for a private educational psychologist report would be accepted as evidence in a PIP claim? Does there have to be evidence from an NHS, (NHS in particular), Health Professional?

The assessor makes a recommendation, the DM makes the decision. It is unusual for the DM to deviate from the assessor's opinion but it does happen.
