The only other thing I can suggest is for you to involve your MP.

Contacting your MP

Is it normally this bad though Gordon? Should I be phoning up everyday to check if they have had letters etc and to check progress or am I'm being too impatient ?

If you haven't done so I would ring to confirm that they have received your letters, the normal practice in this situation would be to suspend payment of your ESA until the matter is resolved to prevent any further over payment.

Just an update on this and a further question,
The error was that my private pension wasn't taken into account in my ESA -it was essentially my fault although the Dwp also failed to act on information I gave them.
This thread started back in April s yiu can see - I was in hospital seriously ill when I realised the omission. It is now 6 months later and whilst they have corrected my ESA - I receive a reduced amount now - I have heard nothing about the overpayment. I have sent several letters - I have also involved my MP who have been told they are dealing with it - although that was back in June.
I have been in contact with BT to get copies of my bills from 2013 but they weren't itemised and they can only replicate bills that were generated at the time i.e. They can't now provide itemised bills as I didn't have them back in 2013 . I'm thinking can I ask the Dwp for copies of the transcripts of phone calls I made to them in 2013 when the private pension was discussed . This is in anticipation of the overpayment - if so how do I request the transcripts? Or should I just wait for the ESA overpayment to be calculated i.e. Leave sleeping dogs lie?
I hate things hanging over me .
Thank you.

You can make a Subject Access Request for any recordings that the DWP have of your phone calls to them, you will need to identify the dates and the approximate times.
