New application for PIP ( risk losing motability )

Hi - re preparing food and PIP. My situation is a bit unusual I suppose, following a bowel perforation I have a rare complication called abdominal fistulae - I have holes in my stomach which are linked to the bowel. I have to wear 3 stoma bags. Food causes the holes to drain more fluid and so I need a lot of encouragement to eat - I have a psychological barrier with food which started when I was in hospital for 3 months being tube fed, following the perforation ( which ultimately led to the fistulae). Left to my own devices I would not eat at all, depending on fortified drinks but nutrition is very important. My husband therefore does all the cooking and has to encourage me to eat small quantities of high protein food several times a day. I'm not sure this would satisfy the descriptor though and if so , how do I demonstrate it ?
Also, is it ok to type the additional information and paper clip it to the back of the form. It's quite difficult to explain all of this and I find typing it is easier and tidier,
Thank you,

The Preparing food activity looks at your ability to prepare and cook a meal, it is not concerned with any issues that you would have with eating that food, this would come under Eating and Drinking.

You will not score points for things that you do not do, only things that you cannot do, so will need to show that your food issues prevent you from preparing and cooking a meal, remember to make use of "reliably" and "for the majority of day" as relevant.

Another new application question -
Moving around - planning a journey -
My problem is this - I dnt really go out of the hiuse that much, if I do its with my husband or daughter. This is because of anxiety and worry over the fact I have to wear several stoma bags. I just feel more comfortable and safe in my own environment, as for planning a journey - I would never have the confidence to drive anywhere unfamiliar - I rely n others to take me, all of this seems too simplistic somehow as there must be many middle aged people who won't drive n motorways or lack confidence to go into town alone, am I overthinking or does there have to me more to it that this .
Thank you

The 'planning a journey' descriptor applies to people who have mental health, sensory or cognitive difficulties.

Hi WW
Very interested in your thread since I am also undergoing the DLA to PIP transfer with problems similar to yours. I have filled in and returned the form and have a home-based f2f coming up. I sent copies of letters from Consultant to GP which were old but gave diagnosis and prognosis in medical terms as oppose to wishing me well.
Please keep us updated on your transfer.
Crohns and colitis website has a useful guide to claiming PIP with bowel problems.
Good luck

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies. Well I sent my application off with lots of evidence - I was sort of hoping for a decision with out a f2f but no such luck - it's week after next. I'm nervous as I don't really look ill and I've heard so many horror stories about these assessments. They are coming t my home at 9am which is early - i have2 stoma bags and mornings aren't good but I don't want to fuss. How can I demonstrate t them how having two stomas affects me. One of them is for fistula - it's quite rare they may not ever know what it is. If they did they would understand how they can be difficult to manage and how it's understandable to need assistance. Plus I have a problem with food - again it's a long story but results from having a perforated bowel where by bowel contents were coming out. Every orificie so I wasn't allowed to eat for months and was fed intraveously. I'm so traumatised by it all I rarely go out now and am in constant pain but trying to relay with to these assessor so frighthens me and I'm not sure I can take any more knocks. Sorry just needed to vent, I will read the guides t help me prepare but if anyone has any additional advice I be most grateful.
Thank you Mr. Asheen for your contribution.
