I don't have much support, not because my GP thinks I don't need it but because part of my problem is I don't trust them. I've been sectioned many times which has broken down the trust so I have severe anxiety around doctors other than my GP, sometimes even my GP. I'm terrified of being locked up again so although I sometimes agree to be referred back to the psychiatrist I usually cancel the appointments. I have a CPN that I see but that's not been for long so she doesn't know me very well yet. A friend who provides a lot of help already wrote a letter.

I get the feeling anything written in support of a PIP claim is viewed with suspicion which is why they put more weight on the assessor's report. I'm looking through my records now for previous referral letters for medical treatment. No reason for my GP to exaggerate on them and some of them do mention how severely I am affected - the Case Manager may ignore them too but I think it's worth a try.

It's very frustrating that a general nurse decided I'm not affected by a mental illness when it has limited my life for so long and so significantly. I'm very lucky with my GP, standard £10 charge for copies of my notes but never charged for letters. I realise after reading the problems others have had getting any letter of support from their GP just how lucky I am.

Good luck with your appeal jayjay.

I've now had my Mandatory Reconsideration result. I already had enhanced for daily living and luckily my mobility has been increased to enhanced from standard. I say luckily because I've still not got a lot of points that I believe I should have so it does seem to be more down to luck rather than due to points being awarded correctly based on my condition and how it affects me.

I sent very good evidence but a lot of it was again ignored. I'm obviously relieved that I don't have to go to a tribunal but I still feel angry at the unfairness whole process. I could so easily have got no award and know that this could be the case next time I'm assessed. For now though I'm trying to focus on it being over and I won't be going to bed worrying about it every night for a while.

Hi R_,

Great news on your successful MR, which are quite rare ! :cheer:

Yes, you may be best concentrating on the positives of the EM Award ! :)

You will get another chance to put your case across again, when your time comes to be re-assessed, when your disabilities will be looked at afresh as they are that time.

I hope you don't mind me commenting, but ive just got my PIP too and your posts caught my eye. I could see some parallels between what you wrote about difficulties with being able to trust and rely on some of those in the health care system and the way it operates - as well as the DWP system and processes - and was very glad to see that your perseverance has overcome the barriers, and even though the reasons and points may not be accurate, you've been awarded the enhanced rates. I try to not hang on to the anger too much and remind myself if I do that it's kind of giving 'them' more power over me, inside my own space.

Good wishes
