Hi Sarah,

Yes, if you are hoping for a home visit this is where to request it. You need to make it very clear why your husband would not be able to attend an assessment centre. You are unlikely to be successful without backing this up with a letter from your GP also explaining why your husband cannot attend a centre.

There is no point in asking for a paper bases assessment. The assessor will decide whether or not they feel they have enough information to make a recommendation without seeing the claimant, it is solely dependent on this.

If your husband is currently on DLA and been contacted to claim PIP, the DLA will continue until 1 month after the PIP decision - this applies no matter what the end date of the DLA or how long the PIP process takes.

Thanks for that Mrs. Hurtyback.

I have a couple of doctor letters which will support the request for a home visit.
Also I'm putting in a copy of a letter we got from ATOS stating that my husband doesn't need to attend examination no more and that they will pass it back to our local soical security office to get sorted. That was for his ESA. As we requested a home visit with them as well.

Claim form is getting posted first thing Monday- then we just have to wait for the dreaded brown envelope- so fingers and toes crossed and hope it goes ok.

Thanks again x

Hi all just a update for you all....

Got a WHITE envelope last week with details of a home visit which will take place on the 23rd Dec- was expecting a brown envelope so got shock when we opened it.

Could someone please tell me what happens at a home visit please as my husband is worrying- we was hoping we would of got it while the kids were at school but never mind. Two days before xmas is ok I suppose.

Could you also tell me what happens with my carers allowance as my husband DLA ends today??

Any info would be great.
Thanks

Hi Sarah,

The assessment will follow the same pattern whether it is carried out in your home or at an assessment centre. The PIP guide explains what to expect.

As per my previous answer, your husbands DLA claim will continue until 4 weeks after a PIP decision has been made (as long as he has kept within the time scales laid down by DWP) so your CA will continue alongside it.

Hi all, Happy New Year. :)

Well my husband had his home visit for his PIP claim on the 23rd December. They lady that turned up was really nice. When she arrived- I helped my husband out his wheelchair on to the sofa. She asked my husband some questions and tapped away on her laptop.

At the end of the questions she said that she wanted to see what movement/ mobility my husband had, but didn't want him to walk anywhere. By this time she had put her laptop away.

I helped my husband sit up and as I did his back went and he was in agony. The lady wrote something down and stopped the medical straight away. She understood and said not to worry and that we will get a decision in the next 6-8 weeks. So we are just waiting now for the brown envelope......

All people that have a up coming medical need to remember just to relax. We was stressing before hand and it went fine with no problems. BUT WE DID FORGET YOUR ADVICE ABOUT THE BUT.....in answering questions :(

I have requested a copy of the medical to see what she wrote down- and was told when I rang PIP it will be here in about 7-10 days. Will keep you posted about that.

Thanks for all the help and information- this site is great.
Just wait for brown envelope now..........
