How long?

Just a post to update our claim

We awaited our Assessor today, they were due in between 12 noon and 2 pm.
The lady arrived at 12.30pm and identified herself and also apologised for being late as she was kept longer than anticipated at her last appointment.
She said she was an ex nurse.

I sat next to my hubby, and she asked for ID for my hubby and then went on to repeat all his illness's and disabilities and what medication he was taking. I answered most of the questions as she was looking at me most of the time as I am his carer an hubby was struggling to answer himself.

She ran through the questions on the claim form and I/we answered as well as we could.

At the end of the questions she did a simple eye test ...he read from a card, there were a few sentences starting off small reaching large print, and asked which he was comfortable reading, with his glasses.

Then she stood a distance away with a very large single letter "E" held up and asked if he could see it clearly.

Then she placed her hands on his forearms, (from above) and asked him to push upwards, then then put her hands underneath his forearms and asked him to push down.
She then asked if he could raise each leg individually and how far, which he tried doing.
She wanted to know how far he could raise his arms and could he put his hands behind his neck.

She didn't ask him to get up at all, she just asked how far he could walk.

She wrote everything up on her laptop, and as we had supplied some more test results from our GP, hubby had to sign at the end to say she had his permission to take them.

She then concluded the assessment by saying that she would be writing the report up that day and sending it to the relevant people and that we should hear something from between 4-6 weeks.
She said she couldn't see there being any problem with our
transition to PIP, which I take with a pinch of salt

All in all hubby and myself found her to be pleasant and easy to talk to, she put us at ease and apologised for upsetting my hubby on more than one occasion ( not her fault, my hubby was emotional at times )
She never asked him to do what he couldn't do and stating not to do anything which he found uncomfortable during her testing of his movement.

After the assessment we chatted for a while and I asked how long she'd done the job, which was 6 months.

She then left and hour and a half after she arrived.

All in all we were happy with the assessment, and so now we wait for a while to see what happens next.

Hopefully we get a favourable result.

I wanted to update to let others know if they have a home assessment and what kind of thing to expect.

Thanks for the update Mia. We have heard from a few members recently who have been happy with the way their assessment was conducted

Your assessor's estimation of how long your decision might take is probably about right.

Quick Update:

We received a letter this morning confirming that the DWP now have al the evidence they need for our claim and will write to us when they've reached a decision.

It is nearly 3 weeks since hubby had his Home Assessment.

Now we wait a little longer....I just wanted to update you all with the timescale.

Hi all, just an update to our claim to help with timescales:

We received a letter from DWP this morning to confirm we have been successful with our claim for PIP. We were on DLA at the high rate of care and the high rate of mobility indefinitely.

Hubby was awarded enhanced rate for care and enhanced rate for mobility until 2019, but they say they will contact us from September 2018 to see if anything has changed.

It has taken just over 5 weeks from our very first letter from Atos asking to attend a F2F for an assessment.

Thanks to all who make this forum possible, because without it I doubt if we would have been successful.

Oh and I forgot to mention that with the DWP letter about our PIP award came a letter from the DWP about our ESA, stating that because there had been a change recently we were now getting 'x' amount.
This being exactly the same as before.

i thought it was odd that we received both the letters, dated the same day.
I did think that ESA had no bearing on PIP. *puzzled*

As to the matter of the letters, I'm afraid the ways of the DWP are beyond understanding!
