It is perfectly OK for you to type your answers and attach them as extra pages to the PIP2, just make sure that each page has your full name and NIN at the top and that they are numbered, we recommend "page X of Y" so that it is easy to see if pages are missing. Make sure you clearly mark on the form where your answers are and on the relevant page that you are answering question X.

Attach the pages to the back of the PIP2 using a staple or make a hole in the top left corner and use a treasury tag, string or ribbon to the form. The pages need to be easily detached so that they can be scanned by the DWP.

Brilliant.

With regard to budgeting, what constitutes a series of simple sums and does it need to be done mentally? My IQ profile was determined to be "spikey" with my vocabulary being very high and some other areas being low.

My mental arithmetic was scored at an age equivalent of 6 years (though it looked to me as though the 50th percentile was 10 years - so I'm not sure how it was worked out).

I can add up simple things sums like 30p + 20p + 20p or £1.30 + £1.40 but I have considerable difficulty doing something like £1.74 + £1.69 as I keep losing the numbers before I finish the sum. To my embarrassment, I've been sitting here for about 5 minutes trying to work it out.

I can, however, operate a calculator.

There are two legal definitions.

“Simple budgeting decisions” means decisions involving –
(a) calculating the cost of goods; and
(b) calculating change required after a purchase.

“Complex budgeting decisions” means decisions involving –
(a) calculating household and personal budgets;
(b) managing and paying bills; and
(c) planning future purchases.

A typical question you will be asked is "you buy something for £1.79 and give the shop assistant £2, how much change should you receive?"

There is not statement as to whether the calculation must be mental or whether it is acceptable to do it on paper, but I would assume the former and if it takes you minutes to do then you can argue that it is not to a necessary standard.

If it takes you minutes to calculate this

Thank you.

Another question - sorry! If I was to get an adult social care assessment and they decided my needs were different to my DLA claim could they trigger a change of circs to PIP on my behalf, even if I did not want them to?

Providing there has been no change in your limitations then the Social Care assessment has nothing to do with your PIP and I can see no reason why you would need to report a Change.
