when you undertake the "journey" to the GP, do you perform it safely and reliably? what would happen if there were unexpected obstacles, such as noisy roadworks which could cause sensory overload in someone with ASD. Do you complete this more than 50% of the time, or do you need a taxi more often. Do you require a friend or carer to accompany you? Do you need to be reminded when the appointment is, or require prompting to complete the task?
you need to state whether this short trip outside is safely and reliably performed.

Thank you Benion, those are all excellent points. I suppose the reality is that my physical health has suffered because the majority of the time I am so unable to even contemplate leaving the house that I miss doctor and hospital appointments!

As a more general query...I haven't yet requested the form for PIP. Is it better to wait to be asked by DWP?

Are there any statistics showing success of claims initiated by claimant as opposed to those initiated by DWP?

Thank you

The process is exactly the same whether the claimant start it or the DWP do.

If you reasonably think that you would receive a higher award under PIP than your current DLA award then applying now may be to your advantage, but please be aware that PIP was specifically designed to be a lot harder to receive than DLA, the intention was/is to reduce the disability budget by at least 20%, so many claimants will see reduced awards and some, no award at all.
