How do I get medical evidence was created by Rowena
I'm sure this has been answered lots of times before, but I don't know where people get their medical evidence from. I searched for a topic on it, but when I do I get nearly 100 results and none of them apply to my question. So could someone please tell me where I get this evidence from. Right from the beginning of my conditions I have never been given a copy of my consultant, surgeons, specialists, etc., reports. They always send these report letters to my G.P. who then calls me into the surgery to discuss them. I automatically assumed that Capita would write to my G.P. who would answer any questions they might have about me following my assessment. However at the assessment, the nurse who did mine said she quite often had 40 pages of evidence sent in with people's claim forms (What!!! Where on earth from?). She said if I found that they didn't give me the higher rate for both, I should get hold of more written evidence. It might seem a bit stupid of me to ask this question now, after being a member of Benefits and Work for some years now (brilliant site by the way), but I really didn't think too much about this side of it. So could someone please tell me where to get the evidence from. Do I ask my G.P. for a copy of my medical records? If so, do they charge. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I would start by talking to your GP, they may be able to provide you with a report.

Failing that you can access your medical records and all of the letters from your Consultants.

Requesting your medical records

Charging for medical records

At any future consultant appointments you can ask to be sent a copy of any letters send to your GP. This will be of no help this time round but could be useful for future reassessments.

Many thanks Gordon. Do you think I should wait to see what my decision is before I apply for them? Especially as they may cost me up to £50!! I can't believe that Capita could make a decision without checking up on my surgeries and hospital stays etc. Still I suppose anything goes with this government and their agents. Thank you for your advice. I have now received a letter from Capita saying 'they have all the info' they need so it is just the dreaded wait for the brown or white envelope. My tummy is churning now just thinking about it. However, I'm choosing to think that as I had the assessment done about a month ago they may have spoken to my G.P. and got the full info' about me. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks once again.

I think it depends on the likely content. If you think that this information could influence the Decision then sending them now could be to your advantage, if you think that they merely provide additional support then wait until the Decision is made.
