Indefinite award of DLS was created by Beragon
I was awarded an indefinite award of DLA back in 1996 as I am co-infected with both AIDS and Hepatitis C ( Still no treatment that NHS England will pay for! ) They obviously thought I was going to pop my clogs but in the words of the Sondheim song " I'm still here"

Does anyone know what could be done to me and my claim?

If you were under the age of 65 on 8 April 2013 then at some time you will be invited to claim PIP. If the DLA award was made on the basis of a DS1500 then unless you GP is prepared to issue a new one, it may not be accepted, then you will need to show that you meet the PIP criteria. See the PIP Claim guide

sorry to hear you are HIV and hep C + that must be very tough, not just battling the illness, but the stigma that surrounds HIV/AIDS
it is good to hear that you are still here after 20 years, HIV treatment is improving but there is still much research and drug development to be done
basically you will be invited to claim PIP and should you fail to accept the invite, your DLA will be stopped. You will get a brown envelope through the door and then you have to phone this number on the letter. They ask you some basic questions and then the big form gets sent out in the post.
if you are now in full blown AIDS you could argue that you are terminally ill, however if you are not AIDS, you would not be able to state this
you can see samples of the big form on a Google search. There is nothing stopping you downloading one now and doing a "rough draft" of how you will fill the real form in. You can also SAR your medical notes at this stage and then you will have them at the ready for when the form arrives.

Hi Beragon

As you say you're not eligible for treatment I assume you're not yet at the cirrhosis stage? Even so, any liver damage from Hep C can cause considerable side effects and affect your quality of life and functional ability.

Things like fatigue, pain and nausea are all relevant. For example, if you do suffer with severe fatigue then this can mean you cannot repeatedly perform the tasks in PIP.

I know quite a bit about Hep C, having suffered with it myself for many years and I'd suggest getting in touch with the Hepatitis C Trust as they have a dedicated benefits advisor, and also to read through the guides on this site. Good luck

Hi Suziq

Thanks for replying to my post. I have just had another fibroscan and have been told that I am now borderline cirrosis, but my Doctor has to go cap in hand to some sort of meeting to ask that I get these new wonder drugs which should clear the Hep C. Still waiting for the decision, but it seems wrong that a person has to wait until a diagnosis of cirrosis before NICE will cough up for the treatment. Thanks for your advice about the Hep c trust

Hi Gordon. Thanks for replying to my post. Yes I know about the form DS1500 which is basically a form issued by a doctor saying a person has less than six months to live. In my case this was not issued back in the day and has never been issued, but I was still awarded DLA. Any idea on how this will affect things?
