ESA Home Visit Assessment was created by Jennie
Hello everyone, I have only just found out about this site. I am in a total mess mentally and physically and have been for a year now. I have severe depression/anxiety/agoraphobia, autoimmune thyroiditis, adrenal fatigue and have been suicidal. I have been trying for a year to get myself better. I can't cope with much mentally and I get plenty of brain fog with my many symptoms.

I need help desperately. I need to do some reading up on this site but because of the way I am not a lot sinks in.

I have been claiming ESA now for a year. Am only on the standard £74.10 per week as I am awaiting a home health assessment, which I have been waiting for since April. I chased them a couple of weeks ago and was told there was a huge backlog because of not many doctors in my area.

Anyway, I phoned ESA again last week because I can't survive on the £74 any more (my parents are helping support me financially), and asked what my options were for me trying to get in for an appointment to speed things up because there is a lot of back payment money sitting there for me. Because of the agoraphobia I would have to be dosed up with Diazepam to get me there but I might still not be able to get there.

Anyway the lady went off the phone to the relevant home visit department to enquire. She came back and said they would put a letter in the post for me for an appointment and promptly informed me that I had been taken off the home visit list......all done in seconds! I said Nooooooooooooo why did you do that, I didn't ask to be taken off the list, I merely enquired as to the possibility of attending an appointment?

I don't believe it, she couldn't get back into the system to put me back on the list and now I am expecting an appointment letter for an appointment I may not be able to get to.

What the hell do I do now?

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

As not appointment has been offered, you should contact the Assessment Provider again and tell them that you still need a home assessment and it was not your intention to agree to one being arranged at their offices as you would not be able to attend.

I am not officially back on the waiting list. I don't know how much truth there is in what I have been told but I have been waiting since April. When I phone they say they have a limited number of Doctors and my assessment depends upon when the Doctor is in my area. According to them they are still working on 2015 claimants.

Every time I phone I am told something different. Yesterday, I was advised to phone my local Job Centre who could fast track my appointment. When I rang I was told they couldn't do anything about it. When I rang DWP again this morning I ended up speaking to a Manager who happened to pick up the phone and she informed me that I had been misinformed.

No wonder we get in such a state about things being told one thing and then another.

Is there ANYTHING I can do to possibly bring my appt forward; it could still be months of waiting and I can't survive on £74.10 a week. Could I possibly get my local MP involved or is it just a waiting game?

I have been waiting for a home assessment since April and have been on standard ESA now since September 2015. They did make a couple of appointments for me to go in and have my assessment but I had to cancel because of my agoraphobia. I explained the situation to them and they accepted my reasons (via my GP) and they offered me a home visit (why they didn't do it in the first place I don't know).

I have been waiting since April and am just on the basic £74 a week. I have phoned a couple of times asking when I might be seen and given the story that they only have a limited amount of doctors doing home visits and they are still working on claimants from 2015 and I will just have to sit tight.

My parents who are now 90 are supporting me financially because I can't work and I can't take any more money from them, I feel so guilty. I will probably lose my house because of the DWP.

Is there any way of me being heard by the DWP to get my assessment asap. Could I write a letter explaining my situation?

Have also been refused again on the PIP (see other post). I am desperate financially and have no where to turn to
