Thank you, this is so helpful.

Will I write this down about explaining the rituals and send this along with the appeal form?
Is it okay to say I find it very difficult to talk about the rituals and compulsions and this is why I have written them down?

I am on the waiting list to see a psychologist and I was told it was currently a year waiting list and this was about a year ago, so I should be getting an appointment soon. It is possible I could have a diagnosis by the time the appeal comes through although I don't want to hedge my bets.

I feel better that you said 'mental health is poorly understood by most assessors and Decision Makers and it is common for them to minimise the effects that a claimant suffer from'.

This whole process is making me feel like they think there is nothing wrong.

Thank for your advice so far.

I would encourage you to include details about how difficult it has been for you to write down these things, it is important that the panel have in depth understanding of how you are affected.

Take some comfort that you are moving these things forward, challenging a benefit Decision is not easy and there will be times when you may think it is too much for you, so try and keep your eye on the end goal of an award.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for your advice.

If I can detail the problems in writing about the rituals, I will still feel vulnerable but a weight will have been lifted off if I don't have to orally explain this.

Do I write about rituals in appeals submissions or add this with the appeal form? Do I send these both together? I have read the guides, I'm just double checking as want to get the process correct.

I wrote in my PIP2 form that I need prompting to take nutrition as if someone else makes a meal for me and or encourages me to eat then I am more likely to eat a proper meal. At the time I was lucky if I had two cooked meals a week. I never ate breakfast and ate an apple at lunch and cereal or bread for dinner. Does this fit the criteria for taking nutrition?

Will I say I agree with the assessor who did the face to face assessment. Do I have to explain why I agree? but I'm appealing the second ATOS assessors decision and DWP decision and follow the guidance for completing this?

Thanks for your time and help.

You need to include basic reasons for your appeal on the SSCS1 form but I would hold off going into detail. Once your appeal has been accepted, the DWP will be notified and will then prepare and submit their case to the Tribunal Service, you will receive a copy of this. I wouldn't wait for this to start preparing your own submission, but you should wait until you receive the DWP documents so that you can make sure that you have addressed all of the issues that they have raised.

Taking nutrition, there are two aspects to this that you need to explain, although they could have the same cause.

You say that someone else prepares a meal for you, assuming this is the case, why can't you prepare a meal for your self. This would come under Preparing Food. What happens when you don't have a meal prepared for you? From what you have posted you do not seem to be eating a nutritionally correct meal, explain why is this the case?

If you need prompting to actually eat, then again, why is this the case, this would come under Eating and Drinking.

If you agree with aspects of the assessors report then you should say so and explain why you do.

Thank you for explaining this.

I have to fill in the appeal submission after I receive the DWP papers?

The preparing a meal and taking nutrition was and still is due to low mood and chronic pain (which was quite bad at time) I lacked motivation to make a meal and eat properly. Even if a meal was made for me (occasionally) I struggled to eat it at the time.

The above is still relevant although I eat more if meals are made for me and or prompted to eat.

I'm so glad to be able to have this site to ask and get help with this whole process.
