PIP and ESA claim deadlines.

I read in the forum that after the initial telephone call to claim PIP,the form usually takes few weeks to arrive, however the next day after I telephoned them I received a text message saying that they have sent the forms?

and how long does it take them to process a new PIP claim currently?

the reason I ask this is because I have to complete both ESA and PIP at the same time which is really overwhelming and was hoping the 2 weeks arriving time of PIP form will give me more time to focus of filling my ESA form.


also, in the PIP guides I read people will be asked about mental health problems during initial phone interview and will be given more time to fill in the form, however during my interview I was only asked if I was hospitalised for my mental health problem which I was not, and I think for this reason they are not going to give me any extra time to complete the forms.(?)

any advice?

Hi PDR,

The PIP2 usually arrives around 10 days after the initial phone call and you will have 1 month to complete it, counting from the date on the form (this includes postage each way). A 2 week extension is usually given by DWP on request.

The initial steps of the PIP claim are usually quite quick - that is, up to and including the face2face if one is needed. It is between the face2face and decision where things take the time - currently around 8 weeks.

If the PIP2 has not arrived within 10-14 days, it is worth phoning to check what is happening, just in case something has gone awry.
