Permitted work. Forced? was created by craig3474
Hi..
I am currently awaiting my Tribunal date to appeal against a ESA decision.

In the meantime, the job centre sends me regular appointments & is increasingly putting pressure onto me to do permitted work, although I am too sick to, hence the reason i am challenging the decision from my ESA medical.

My question is; can the Job Centre force me into permitted work? And what are the interviews for? What is the minimum that can happen?

I am currently in receipt of PIP (Higher care/Lower Mobility) & I receive Severe disability premuim

Thank you in advance

You cannot be asked to work or to seek work while receiving ESA.

Thank you Gordon for you're reply.

No matter how much i explain to the Job Centre advisor that i am unwell, they still keep suggesting permitted work would do me good and its a really useful stepping stone to get back into work.

Recovering from head & neck cancer, i struggle to chew & swallow, food constantly gets trapped on the back of my throat which causes coughing and choking. Im actually scared to eat alone.
The Job Centre advised me to eat with somebody at home before i go to work! Ridiculous!

Sorry for the rant, but another question, what is the maximum that I am required to do when i have these JC appointments? I feel so anxious

Thanks in advance

I am afraid there is no "maximum", it depends on your JC+ advisor and yourself to work out what is reasonable with regard to the limitations that result from your conditions, if you feel that you are being pushed too far then you need to raise it with the advisor and if necessary be prepared to escalate the issue to their supervisor.

The advisor may continue to push for you to do PW, but they cannot require you to do it, so just say no and explain why you are saying this.
