Trying to return to work... was created by Kat10
Hello,
I currently receive PIP for daily living and not mobility. I was just wondering if I were to try and do a part time job in the future how would this effect my PIP. I would love to return to work even on very low hours but I really don't know if it would be too difficult due to increase in symptoms.
Many thanks

PIP is not an earnings replacement benefit so you can work or not without it affecting your PIP claim., however, you need to consider whether the work you are intending to do conflicts with the limitations that resulted in you award. As a deliberately absurd example, if you had a Mobility award and took a job delivering the mail then this would indicate a conflict.

You do not need to inform the DWP that you are starting work, but it may be to your disadvantage if you do not and there are concerns over whether you still meet the criteria.

Thank you for your helpful reply. I will double check my PIP approval letter although I know that I don't receive anything for mobility. Apart from DWP are there any other agencies which could advise on this sort of thing i.e. trying to match work within my capabilities?

Hi Kat,

Gordon's mention of the mobility component is just an example. You should be careful to make sure that any job you take does not contradict the reasons for claiming PIP.

If you do get a job, Access to Work might be able to advise, and possibly help fund, any adaptations that you might need there.
