I only have my mum for support. I am limited to my bed at the moment as I am so ill will they take this into consideration I find it hard to go down stairs as I get so anxious. :(

It's difficult to offer reassurance about what would be for anybody a stressful time.

Have a look at the PIP Claim guide it has a section at the back that covers the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked, other than that I would just try and put it out of your mind as much as possible.

I remember when I was assessed for PIP, I spent days worrying about what I would say and had worked out a cunning plan of how I would manage the interview, two minutes in and I had forgotten everything I meant to say. I could have saved a lot of stress by just reading a good book or watching a favourite film and I wish I had.

From what you have written you should easily qualify. However chances are they will make you do an assessment. You can get home assessments.
I have MH issues and a long history of suicide attempts that started aged 9. I still got made to do an assessment even though specialists and MP said it was completely inappropriate.

Hi Zoe,

I recently had a home assessment for mental health problems too. It understandable that you are so worried.

All I can pass on from my experience is that you really need to tell all, no matter how uncomfortable that is with a complete stranger. I had my dad with me but I asked him to leave the room while I talked about things like self harm as I hate worrying him. This was taken as me coping fine alone with strangers. So if you need your mum with you, then have her there at your side. The other thing is don't be hurried, make sure you say everything without being rushed and don't say anything just to make the assessor happy. Be detailed about the impact an activity has on you so go beyond saying it causes anxiety or fear and describe what you do when that feeling is triggered.

Do try and do something relaxing before the assessment, which I know is easier said than done. I wish you the very best of luck.

hi zoe,
having read your posts i thought i would reply and offer you some support ,as i have also been through very similar as to what you have been through and felt i had to reply to you ,. i suffer severe anxiety /depresion , ocd,and also am agrophobic ,i spend most of my days in my bedroom as that onlt place i feel safe,. i never had dla or pipb before so in feb of this year i put in a claim for it ,, had a home assesment and like gordon said ,i thought i had everything i wanted to say in my head ready , when the lady actualy got to my home my mind totaly went blank,., answerd honestly as i could ,anyway it came back i wasnt awarded any rate of pip not enough points,. i sent off for MR and that come back unchanged also, so sent off for appeal,.i had my appeal 2 weeks ago ,and was awarded standard for both ,daily and mobility,, it been very stressfull upseting with the lies the HA wrote in her report , having no help from CAB or welfare rights advisors as there all so overstreched in my area i managed to make a case for myself ,this site has been the best thing ive ever subscribed too, i couldnt of done it wthout the help of the guides, the mods and alsp people going through the same giving help and advice also , hope your claim is succsesfull for you ,but if it comes back unsucsefull dont be too disheartend , keep fighting for what you believe your entitled to ,,ime glad i took it to tribunal and kept on fighting my corner ,they were very nice there asked alot of questions but was nice i felt that someone was actualy listening to me and they were compasionate and treated me as a person not a scrounger the way the dwp make us out to be ,, wishing you the best of luck zoe ,

I had assessment Mon 28th November how long in general will I have to wait to hear from dqp? Just an average waiting time?
