PIP 1 - PIP 2. was created by jack2121
Hi, After recently receiving the form “ Your DLA is ending” I`m a Bit confused –pip 1, - pip2. Am I right that when we phone DWP to claim pip we will initially be asked to fill in a form pip1 form over the phone? Am I also perfectly within my rights to ask that this pip 1 form be posted out to us? My wife has memory and concentration problems and I often speak on her behalf. We also have some medical evidence we would wish to include.
Thank you all advice appreciated.

Yes the PIP1 is normally completed by the DWP over the phone and then you are sent a PIP2 to complete.

It is an option to request the PIP1 be sent to you but if you can make the call on behalf of your wife then we would advise you to do this. Members who have had to request a copy of the form have without exception had problems in receiving the form from the DWP. The PIP claim does not start until the DWP have a completed copy of the PIP1 form, so it is not just a question of receiving the form but making sure it also back in time.

If you still want to go ahead with a paper copy then you need to write to

Hi all, Reading the pip guide I came across this

The initial claim process collects basic information about you and about whether you have one of the following conditions:
mental health condition
behavioural condition
learning difficulty
developmental disorder
memory problem

If you have one of the health conditions listed above you should be given extra time to return the form.

Q. How do I go about obtaining this - Extra time ?

My wife suffers several of these conditions.

The main reason i`m asking is that i`m supposed to ring them before the 26th Nov 16. Planning on around the 23rd/24th for (pip 1). How soon do they then send out (pip 2)? I`m quite worried that our Christmas will be spent filling in the pip 2 form. Were already depressed at receiving the DLA ends letter as like others my wife`s was indefinite. Any advice for getting this “extra time” is appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. I have been a member of b&w for the past 6/7 years. I did successfully help my wife get straight into the support group 3yrs ago using this site, so a belated thanks for that. She was quite ill at the time so I didn`t really have time to report back. Thank you.

Jack

Depending on the severity of her condition they may offer her longer than the normal four weeks to complete the PIP2, if they don't then you can ask for a two week extension of you need it.

The PIP2 is usually sent out immediately so you should receive it about a week after the call, if you need an extension then ask early as the DWP will be closed on the three Bank Holidays and likely running on reduced staffing levels for the period between Christmas and New Year which may lead to additional delays on the phone.

Are they legally obliged in any way to grant any extension or is it purely at there discretion. ?
