PIP Mobility was created by blueisme
I have an appointment for a PIP assessment next Wednesday. I've changed the appointment to a local centre. I'm feeling so ill mentally and physically I'm getting so I can't do anything because i'm so overwhelmed with worry. Would i be able to get my doctor to say i'm too ill to attend or would the appointment be rearranged.

Hi blueisme and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

If this is already your second appointment, you should attend if you possibly can.

Claimants are allowed only 1 re-arrangement, otherwise there is a high chance that the case file will be returned to DWP and the claim closed.

The claimant should be asked to show 'good cause' for not attending and a doctor's letter would be strong evidence. However, DWP have a nasty habit of stopping payments first and asking questions later, so you should avoid this happening if you can!

I guess I will have to go. I have an anxiety disorder and aspergers and although I know there's no point in worrying about the assessment I can't think of anything else, can't sleep or function and feel quite desperate.

Hi blueisme

I had my assessment last week and despite being fully prepared and very confident that if the assessment and the decision was bad I would have a very strong case at a tribunal, I was a nervous wreck at the assessment, including being tearful during the assessment. Anxiety makes symptoms worse and whilst you are being assessed, it's better to be at your worse because the assessor makes observations throughout the assessment, so it could be to your advantage.

Please be strong, everyone here knows how stressful assessments are, get it over with no matter how you feel, by Wednesday it will all be over and then you can start to relax, although it has taken me a few days to return to my baseline.

Have you spoken to your GP/CPN/psychiatrist and told them how you are feeling?

Don't forget that The Samaritans are always there to listen if you feel desperate

I too have anxiety and was diagnosed with Aspergers in 2014, I really feel I know how you are feeling at the moment. The problem for those with Aspergers is that we really dwell on things, how many times have you done this only to find that you have worried unnecessarily, I know I do it all the time.
