ESA was created by Susan Smith
Hi, please could you help with a question regarding ESA renewal.
I am currenly in ESA support group and have been since 2012, I have rang them to ask when I can expect to be reviewed as it was deferred before, and was told April 2017.
Could you tell me what the procedure is for renewal, and what is the time schedule for them to contact me, will they send me forms months before hand?

I am also in receipt of Indefinite DLA , High rate Care and Low rate Mobility, and was wondering if you knew what is happening with the indefinite awards with regards being transfered to PIP.

My mobility has got alot worse, however I have not contacted them with a change of circumstances as I did not want to "rock the boat", and was wondering if maybe I will possibly get both departments contacting me at the same time?

Thank you for any help

Welcome to the forum.

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

If your reassessment date is April 2017 then I would expect you to receive a new ESA50 in the February.

Each reassessment is a full review of your claim so you will need to complete the form in detail and supply evidence to support your claim as you can. Have a look at the ESA Claim guides for more information.

As to the PIP, claimants with an indefinite award are being invited to claim PIP on a random basis, so it's impossible to say when you will receive the letter.

Four weeks including postage time to and from you, there is no extension available for an ESA form.

If it will help there is an electronic version you can download and begin filling in advance of the paper version. See

Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire

Using the PDF version helps the claimant, as Gordon suggests. (I suspect thats why the DWP don't do that for PIP)
Mine arrived a week after the date on it so I only had 3 weeks to do it and send it back. But since I had already done the PDF version that didn't matter.
Since CESA claimants can go abroad for 4 weeks without telling DWP (30 days since the days of departure and arrival count as days in the UK para C2008 www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/upl...ile/473324/admc4.pdf ) I wonder what would happen if the claimant had gone abroad the day the form arrived.

A couple of points :)

The document you linked to refers to what is known as "new style ESA", as such it only covers claims for ESA made under Universal Credit, there is separate documentation for "old style ESA".

Even though no reference is made to notifying the DWP of an absence from the UK, I do not believe you can assume that no notification by the claimant is required. Whilst I would not bother for a couple of days absence, our recommendation is that members contact the DWP if they will be out of the country for longer periods.

To answer your question, if your being abroad meant that you were unable to return the ESA50 by the required date then not being in the UK should count as Good Cause for this, but it may take time for you overturn any Decision to close your claim

If your absence limited the time that you had available to complete the form then the situation is more complicated, as the ESA legislation does not allow for an extension of the four period normally allowed.
