Historic Psychosis is it still admissable?

Hi,
I'm diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia. I have had 6 episodes since 1990's 3 hospitalised and despite lengthy recovery periods characterised by depression anxiety I have no current schizophrenic symptoms. I work 3 days a week and struggle with anxiety+ insomnia , tiredness from meds, lack of motivation to cook etc. My last episode was 4 yrs ago and I can become unwell very quickly and spiral fast into psychosis. It would seem as the supervision aspect has been withdrawn I may struggle to gain points in my transition form DLA mrc to PIP.
Does anyone have a similar story with a good outcome?? Any help appreciated thank you.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

As you have already identified one of the big changes from DLA to PIP is the concept of general supervision.

Your difficulty with PIP will be twofold;

PIP is a functional test only so you will need to show difficulty in completing the PIP activities in order to score points.

Secondly, those assessing will be looking at your conditions and limitations as they are at the time of the invitation, I think you will struggle to show a reasonable risk of relapse if you have not done so for four years and you are able to work three days a week.

That said, you have nothing to lose by making an application when invited to do so by the DWP, if nothing else it will extend your DLA claim until a Decision is made and if you can show problems with the activities you may well qualify for an award.

I would have a good read of the PIP Claim guide to make sure that you understand the criteria against which you will be assessed and in particular the content on the use of "reliably" and "on the majority of days".

In my application the previous episodes where I had been involuntary detained in hospital were mentioned in the history at the start of the report, but there was no reference to them in the points score section.
The award all comes down to the descriptors eg cooking, taking meds, eating and having a bath.

Hi Helen I have recurrent depression with psychotic features. I get PIP enhanced care and am in support group for ESA due to risk of psychosis worsening with stress.

I think having something like a care plan, ongoing meds and diagnosis from he mental health team is helpful; for my recent PIP although I have not been discharged and condition stable the assessor recognised I have chronic problems despite it being recurring / variable. I'm on long terms antipsychotics and this is mentioned in the MH notes. Don't forget to mention side effect of meds as well. Mine is also from 1990s and think possibly shows the long term nature of the problem. Instead of saying something like 'historic psychosis' which sounds like it is a past problem maybe better to write your diagnosis of Schizophrenia. HTH.x
