Appealing PIP on colostomy was created by rainysnows
Hi anyone, I was previously on high rate care DLA for my colostomy .Now I've had to change to PIP ,I have been turned down and had my Mandatory Cons turned down .Now I am going to appeal and have seen the response from DWP - they say that that my mucous fistula , which is the distal end of my colostomy , is not covered by a descriptor .It is the fistula that I can't manage on my own .It is (sorry about the honesty here , but I need help !) situated right in my pubic hair .As it weeps continually I have to shave the area often and apply stoma caps several times a day .I can't do this as I can't see the area ! I have a hernia and a lumpy tum due to surgery .I also have to do a wash out with a very thin tube - I wouldn't consider doing this myself as you can puncture your bladder - plus I couldn't see to get the tube in if I wanted to .So I rely on my husband for both problems. They are saying there is no descriptor for this but it's something I need a lot of help with and is part of my colostomy .

Any advice appreciated , thanks !

I think that they are taking a very literal view of the relevant Descriptors, from my somewhat limited understanding I cannot see how they can separate this from the operation of the stoma. I think that a Tribunal may view it differently.

As an alternative you could include the necessary actions under the Managing treatment activity.

The PIP MR & Appeal guide has links to the SSCS1 form that you will need to complete and instructions on how to complete it, yo do not need to go into detail for your reasons for appeal at this stage.
