Hi,

I receive Income Related ESA, will I lose that if my wife applies for carers allowance, it seems to imply that in the application notes?

Regards

The CA will be treated as income and deducted from your ESA(IR) resulting in no net change to what you receive, but you will also receive a Carers Premium of £34.60/week, increasing your EAS(IR).

Thanks Gordon, so it is worth applying?

The SA will cancel out the ESA (IR), but I will be better off by £34.60 being the Carers Premium?

What happens next July when I reach 65 years of age and lose the ESA?

Will my wife then get the full carers allowance, and I my OAP?

Yes that is how it works, you may be eligible for Pension Credit now as a replacement for your ESA(IR). You can put your information into one of the online benefit calculators.

Hi Gordon & Co,

One last question,

When I reach 65 in July 2017, my ESA(IR) will cease completely and I will receive my Old Age Pension?

If my wife gets Carers Allowance, will this continue in full?

So the ESA will no longer cancel out the CA, not withstanding the Carers Premium of £ 34.60.

So I will retain my full old age pension, and my wife will retain her full CA?

Regards

You will receive your pension, the Premium will no longer be payable and your wife will continue to receive her CA.

If you can claim Pension Credit then the Premium will be payable again.
