PIP Mandatory Reconsideration Notice was created by Johnny
Hello there,
This forum and website has been extremely helpful and supportive. Please can someone offer some advice for this situation:

I received the dreadful original PIP decision letter on the 8th September this year (0 points for everything). I made a phone call on the 14th September to ask them to reconsider their decision, they said to me that I can send in any information/evidence in the post and I have one calendar month from the date of the letter to send this.
On the 4th October, I had sent in a letter describing each and every descriptor and they had received this on the 5th October (special delivery).
However, I have received the MRN in the post today dated 16/11/16 and it says that "during
your phone call on 14th September you asked us to look again at our decision.."
I cannot see any relevance to the 7 page letter I had originally sent. They have given an option of appeal.

I would highly appreciate any form of advice and what steps I should take now as I believe I should have had a proper MRN based on my letter that was sent within a calendar month.

Thank you.

You can phone the DWP and ask whether the letter was included.

If it wasn't then you can ask them to carry out a second MR using the letter, where this has happened before the DWP have agreed to do this.

As you have now have the MR Notice, you can carry on to appeal. The PIP MR & Appeal guide has links to the SSCS1 form you will need to complete and instructions on how to complete it. You do not need to go into detail at this time as to why you are appealing.

Hi Gordon.

Thank you for your reply and assistance.

I called up the DWP yesterday and the person I spoke to confirmed that they had received the letter on time (5th October). I asked if they had included the letter and she assumed that they must have had a look at the letter. I told her that I do not think my letter was read because the caseworker did not mention it in the MR and based their decision according to previous information they had. Also the caseworker had listed some of the disputed descriptors and stated that I did not dispute any of the other descriptors, however there were at least four more descriptors in the letter that I explained thoroughly along with all the other disputed ones. She then proceeded to say that she will get them to call me back to explain (yesterday or today) and I still have not received any phone call.

Please can you advise on what to do now?

Thank you.

You obviously need to wait for the phone call, but beyond this our advice remains the same, push for a second MR or go on to appeal.
