Hi I'm new to this site and apologise if this has been repeated already . I'm currently on DLA and IS due to being ' a substantial risk to myself and/or others and should be supervised at all times'. I have been on DLA since 2001 and have never had to go for a medical assessment.
I was quite upset to be put in this category initially but soon realised that it was a good situation in terms of being left alone.
I now have to apply for PIP, my forms where sent off yesterday and be assessed for ESA, I waiting on the random initial phone call * Gah*.
I've noticed that there is the same category on both PIP and ESA, does anyone have experience of moving form DLA to PIP and/or ESA under this category?
My situation hasn't changed and I have people that can write in support of that without any prompting from myself.
Cheers.

Hi Honsi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I'm sorry that you are having to deal with the transfer to both ESA and PIP at the same time :(

ESA does have an 'exceptional circumstances' element, this is explained in the guide.

ESA claims and appeals

However, there is nothing of this sort in the PIP descriptors I'm afraid

PIP help for claimants

May I suggest 2 things?

Firstly that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future.

Secondly that you keep this topic to discuss just one of the benefits (ESA or PIP) and start a new one for the other. It makes our 'job' very much easier if everything relating to the same benefit is kept in one topic - and I hope it will be helpful for you too :)

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
