missed esa medical was created by Ruby
Hi
I have just realised that I have missed attending my esa medical!! It was YESTERDAY!!
It was for a reassessment. I had already got a family member to ring and change the first appointment so this was the rearranged medical.
What will happen now?
I will get my sister to ring Maximus tomorrow and explain that we forgot but is this likely to be acceptable?
Im so worried!
Many thanks

I'm afraid it is unlikely to be good news, standard procedure in this situation is for Maximus to return your file for failing to attend, you should be contacted by the DWP as to why you failed to attend, but I think it unlikely that your forgetting about the assessment, unless you have shown that memory problems are one of your conditions, will be accepted as Good Cause.

Any Decision that is made will be appealable.

Oh dear! Thank you for your prompt reply Gordon.

I was so scared to attend that I tried to put it out of my mind and only checked the letter when making arrangements for my sister to attend with me. At that point realised it wasnt NEXT Wednesday!!

Can I clarify that you say I could appeal the DWP decision?
Also is that decision usualy fit for work following non attendance of amedical?

Yes you can appeal the Decision (MR followed by appeal).

Yes it would be Fit for Work but this is a technical Decision not one that you do not have Limited Capability for Work.

Happy new year,

I was contacted by the DWP and sent back the form with an explaination as to why I didnt attend the Maximus assessment for ESA. I have been on ESA for many years.

I still havent heard back (I appreciate its been Christmas) but I have continued to receive ESA payments. I had expected them to stop as soon as I missed my medical.

I am wondering if my explaination is not accepted and my ESA is stopped will I have to repay the money from the missed medcal date or do the DWP give another date eg their decision date or from when I returned ESA50?

Many thanks.

No you won't, if a Decision is made to close your claim then it will apply from the date that it is made and as ESA is paid in arrears this can be accounted for in any last payment.

Check with the DWP as to what is happening with your claim, although Christmas may have got in the way of a Decision these type of Decisions are usually made very quickly.
