PIP appeal tribunal was created by Janet
Hi all, I was hoping for some advice. I had a lifetime award of DLA with higher rate mobility and lower rate care and I have had a motability car for six years. I had to apply for PIP this year. When I got my decision I was awarded the standard rate for both mobility and care, whilst the money works out roughly the same it meant that I was not entitled to the car and it was taken away. I applied for a mandatory recon, I received my decision this morning and they have decided that the original decision stands, so I am now having to apply to the tribunal. When applying is it better to ask for a decision on paper or to ask to attend?
I would be grateful for any tips or advice as I am now housebound due to having no car and I'm really struggling to manage.

Statistically an Oral hearing, that you attend, is much more likely to result in an award than a Paper one that you do not, but if there are reasons, other than logistical, that would mean that you would struggle to attend, then you should consider whether your attending the Tribunal would reduce the credibility of your answers to the panel's questions.
Be aware that the PIP criteria are far stricter than those that applied to DLA, so if you hoping to receive an Enhanced award on just the Moving Around activity then you will need to show that you cannot walk "reliably" and "on the majority of days" more than 20m.

hi ,
sorry to hear your MR was unchanged,. i attended a tribual 4 weeks ago and i suffer agrophobia MH and oestio ath.. i asked for a oral but then thought it might go against me as i dont go out ,but took the chance and attended ,,as hard as it was ,they kindly aranged a taxi to take me there ans wait ,and bring me home straight after hearing ,,i was in a awfull mess whilst there with my anxiety etc but they were very understanding ,,i was glad i attended as they could see me as i am and how anxious i get ,,plus could ask me question and ide have the chance to explain and answer them ,they were very patient didnt rush me at all and even offerd me a little break as it was getting too much for me ,, of coursr it entirley your choice what is best for you but just to let you know they can arrange a taxi for you and you dont pay for it either ,,
