PIP1 Form Query Re DLA Evidence was created by tinytrevor
Hello all
I am preparing for my initial PIP claim (transferring from DLA to PIP) and I note on the PIP1 form (sample downloaded from government website) that it asks you on page 18 about DLA and in particular if you would like the evidence from your DLA claim to be used as evidence in your claim. I can’t see any advice in the B&W PIP guide about how to answer this section, so would appreciate some advice if possible please. Is it advisable to say yes to this question, and if so should one say they would like to see the evidence before you decide?
My instinct is to yes but would I would like to see the evidence first, then I 1) know what was used in my DLA claim (eg. Was there a DWP requested GP report) 2) Can check everything is still relevant.
On the other hand though is it better to start from scratch with fresh evidence related to PIP and PIP criteria?
Any advice from people who have been through the process or from B&W on this matter would be very welcome.
Thanks
Trevor

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
If your DLA form is still relevant and your condition largely unchanged then it might be worth saying that it can be used.
On the other hand if your condition(s) have changed a lot since the DLA assessment, such that the form no longer gives an accurate picture of your problems, it might be better to say no.
Either way, as DWP have a practice of destroying paperwork after an interval (this seems to vary considerably) we suggest that you should send in anything that might be helpful, rather than replying on DWP.
Don't forget to make good use of our PIP guide
PIP help for claimants
May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us a lot - and I hope you will find it useful too

It's up to you, but be aware that the PIP assessment criteria are significantly different from the DLA ones.
If you have had a recent DLA assessment or your conditions have not changed significantly since you were last assessed then you might want to consider using your DLA information.
If you have not been assessed for some time or your conditions have changed since you last were then you might want to concentrate on using new evidence.
Using your previous DLA evidence not preclude you from supplying new evidence.
There is no guarantee that your DLA will still be available.
Although you can ask as part of you making a claim, I would not expect the DWP to provide copies of the DLA evidence to you.
Our recommendation is to supply all of the evidence you want those assessing you to review with the PIP2. You can get copies of your previous DLA information, if you do not have copies yourself by making a Subject Access Request.
