Firstly, thank you for the guides this site provides

I'm on income bases ESA and now DLA middle rate care & low mobility rate.
The IR ESA is because I haven't enough NI contributions apparently.
I rent my house which since receiving ESA housing benefit has paid. Its a 1 bed bungalow.

My fella has suggested moving in as I'm really struggling with illness & he wants to help bless him. He is in receipt of contribution based ESA and high rate care, low mobility DLA as he's got a heart condition (we're mid 40s not young chickens!)
He doesn't own or rent property, he has lived with his parents since he divorced 5 years ago.

Can anyone tell me what will happen benefits wise if he moves in? I'm assuming we'll have to put in a joint claim, but will I lose my DLA or ESA if i lose ESA I'll lose the housing benefit and couldn't afford the rent & I'm a bit worried.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

We can't give detailed financial advice on the forum, you really need to get face to face advice from a trained advisor who can look at the benefits you both receive and work out what you would receive if you lived together. Failing that put your information into one of the online benefit calculators.

www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

I can however, give you some idea. As only one of you (you) has an Income Related claim you can both keep your claims, yours will become a joint claim, your partner will continue to receive their ESA(CB) but it will be treated as income for your ESA(IR).

The DLA will not be affected.

Housing Benefit may be, but we don't advise on this.

Thank you Gordon, its been messing with my head, much as I need the physical help, I don't want the stress of a messed up benefits claim.
Really appreciate the help, thanks!
