ESA, PIP additional components was created by liddiaellen
I am hoping for some advice as locally sources are very thin on the ground.
My husband gets ESA ( income related support group , with me added to make couple premium) He has got this for about three years.
I get PIP which was a three year award due to run out next year.
basically he applied for the ESA as I have agoraphobia as well as other physical illness and at the time he applied for the ESA I could not attend GPs to get fit notes required and with his ill health he could attend the GP's.
I was awarded back dated PIP after taking a year to fill out the form I got basic rate on both mobility and daily living.
We both look after each other. My hands are weak so my husband chops veg he gets confused so I check the spuds are cooked but he has to drain them and so on and so forth.
I have recently been advised that one of us may get carers allowance or enhanced disability premium however it may be deducted from our existing benefit so pointless or we may only get a percentage.
I have read all the guides over the last month or two and have got a headache and zero clarity on any further benefits we may be entitled too.
The benefits people intimidate me and I am loathed to contact them or let my husband unless I am certain of the outcome.

I need to correct you in regard the ESA, your husband cannot receive ESA for your conditions, an award of ESA can only be made to the claimant because of their problems, even though you are considered part of his claim, your conditions are not a factor in an award being made.
If he is receiving Income Related ESA and is in the Support Group then he should already be receiving the Enhanced Disability Premium.
He can claim Carers Allowance for you if you have a PIP Daily Living Award. The CA will be treated as income and deducted from his ESA(IR) leaving no net change to your payments but he will also receive a Carers Premium of £34.60/week which will be added to the ESA(IR).

Sorry I did not think I said my husband gets esa for my illness . One of us needed to apply for ESA and as both not working apply for couple premium.
As both cannot apply to ESA we agreed it would be him as I could not get out to get the required evidence for my illness and he could get out to get the required evidence for his.
Sorry if did not make sense

Not a problem, the important thing was that you understood how it worked.
