Carer's allowance question was created by Orangeblossom
I'm asking for a friend. If someone has a child who gets DLA but the mother is self-employed so is above the threshold for Carer's allowance, would fit be possible for them to get someone to help and that person get the carer's allowance? Thanks.

Hi Ob,

Anyone can claim carer's allowance as long as they provide at least 35 hours of care per week for the person receiving DLA/PIP and fulfill the hours/income criteria.

Ok thanks, I'm not sure how that would work then as think it would be far less than the minimum wage. Would the parent need to top that up them I suppose? I'd be interested to hear how this works for people.

It has nothing to do with the minimum wage, the caree may decide to provide additional payments but that is down to them, if they did this then they would need to be aware of the earnings limit for CA and there are also issue of Tax and National Insurance that may come into effect.
