PIP Assessment was created by Kevin McLeish
For my PIP Consultation, I Had to attend a meeting at Princess Court. Princees Street. Plymouth. The invitation came with a warning, that if I did not attend, my claim to Benefits would end.
I arrived at my appointment over an hour early, which gave me time to compose myself in the waiting room.
Every step I take is painful, but I am a 56 year old man, it was important to attend, so I did.
I feel I was tricked by DWP, because they said as I was able to manage to walk the 25 metres from my car and then be able to return. The Decision Maker downgraded my Higher Rate Mobility to Standard Rate. It's true I walked wih aids, But, I caused mr a lot of pain.
I thought I had no choise, other than to withstand the pain caused by attending their meeting. I would not choose to walk anywhere unless I have too. Any walking, almost any movement causes me pain. When needed, I have to manage pain.
[Phrase removed] He did not introduce himself, he was busy typing, did not seem to take notice of what I said. He asked the same question several times over. Did not seem to understand or know what my injuries are.
I'm asking for a second opinion with a different professional.

Welcome to the forum.

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I'm afraid you will not get a new assessment unless the original one is deemed to be unfit for purpose, this only happens very rarely and nothing you have said in your post suggests that this would be the case.

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
