Face to Face assessment was created by Cher
Hi there
With your help I completed an ESA50 in May this year. Today 13/12/2016 after waiting all this time I have received an appointment for a face to face assessment in January 2017. My health issue is mental health so as you can imagine I feel terribly anxious and stressed. Can you advise me on anything new I should be aware of that has changed since I completed the form in May 2016. Also though nothing has changed in my condition should I get my Doctor to confirm and/or write another letter to send/take with me. Finally anything else you think of that would help me I would be very grateful, Thank you.

Hi Cher,

Nothing has changed regarding ESA since you completed your ESA50. If your health hasn't changed then there is no need to do anything else - other than re-reading your copy of the ESA50 and checking the ESA guide to see what to expect on the day.

Don't forget that the assessor will consider how you get to the venue, whether you attend alone etc. You should consider that the assessment starts when you leave your home and doesn't end until you are out of view afterwards.

Thank you for your quick response. Should I get an up to date letter from my doctor to take with me to say nothing has changed? Although receiving this appointment date has sent my mental health problems through the roof.

If your GP will do one free of charge then go for it! I don't think it would be worth paying for something though - unless it would help settle your anxiety in a major way.

Thank you. Do you know why it has taken so long from filling the from in May to getting an appointment in January?

The DWP created huge delays in the system during 2014-15 by pushing more claimants through the system than the then Assessment Provider, ATOS could manage, we are still seeing delays in many parts of the country from this.
