PIP1 by post better if mental health problems? was created by Anniebee51
I have already changed from IS to ESA and am in the support group. My Dad got me through that but he is ill and I need to go from DLA to PIP on my own. I have multiple physical and mental health conditions, including sarcoidosis, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, bipolar disorder, and OCD.
Because of my mental health problems I feel I would be better filling in the PIP1 form than starting the claim by phone, but I am worried that my claim will be delayed (especially with Christmas in the middle) and I will lose benefits. I would really appreciate any advice anyone can give. Thank you.

HI and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
and In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
It is supposed to be possible to initiate the PIP claim by post. However, members who have attempted to do this have had considerable problems, it seems that DWP are loathe to even admit to claimants that this is possible!
I also think you are correct to worry that Christmas post and DWP closures could make it difficult to get the claim started on time if you try and do this by post. Failure to initiate the claim in time would result in your DLA payments being suspended in the first instance (they would be restarted when the claim is started, as long as this is done within a second month).
Our PIP guide explains what information will be needed over the phone. Is there anyone else who could help you with this (you would have to answer security questions first)?
PIP help for claimants
May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too

Thank you for your reply. I am glad to have that information. I ran out of time yesterday but will ring and complete the claim as soon as they open today. My stomach is churning already, but I am sure I am not alone in that! I have changed my name from my full name in the profile as you suggested. Thanks again.
