hi guys, my forms for PIP went back, i had a telephone call today @ 11am asking me to go in for an assessment tomorrow morning at 8-30, i explained that it would not be possible as it takes 2-3 hours for my medication to work and make me any where near able to function somewhere near normalish. he then said that i would need a later time for an appointment, yes please i said, he told me he had another appointment day which would be monday, thats fine i said then i asked him where it was and he told me that it would be in swindon, i then said to him how am i supposed to travel there for 10am as it is nearly 100 miles away.
he then said that the appointment would be sent out for some time in the new year and i would have to phone to change the appointment time. i have an issue with them phoning you up and telling you you have an appointment the next morning without no notice, do they even read your assessment forms you send back to them ?, they know i cannot travel far or walk far and sit and stand for any period of time and suffer with stress and anxiety, all the information they have it seems that they do totally the opposite of what you need.

the time they give you, less than 24hrs notice does not even allow you to sort out how to get there and who could take you, we have no friends or family only our neighbour has offered to take me when needed, but less than 24hrs notice does not even give you time to ask her if its ok, and that is if she is available to help. are ATOS allowed to do this, send me nearly 100 miles away seeing as though my nearest assessment centre is 7 miles away from my home ?,
Will the fact that i said these things to the bloke on the phone impact on my claim for PIP ?, my phone automatically records the phone call so they cannot say that i refused to attend the appointments offered, as i did not refuse any time i just moaned to him about the times and distance i would be expected to travel.
my other problem with the call is that i would not even receive a letter with the time and date on to prove i actually had an appointment, what would happen if i travelled the nearly 100 miles to an assessment centre only to be told i did not have an appointment, they would not just squeeze me in would they.
this phone call today has just pushed my buttons today, and my partners.
having an assessment is not a problem as i have just drummed it in my head that everybody claiming would need one, and if we loose our disability well we do, but its the way that they have dumped this on us with less than 24 hours notice.

any advice would be gratefully appreciated many thanks

You do not have to accept a last minute appointment - you are entitled to 7 day's notice (although this does include postage time).

You can be required to travel for up to 90 minutes each way for the assessment (the journey time is assessed on public transport), I suspect that 100 miles would take longer than that unless it is motorway all the way!

The problem is that the telephone operators who make the appointments don't have access to all the information you have sent in, they just get a list of names to contact
