DLA to PIP: Appeal Won at Tribunal was created by madpridemark
The person for whom I am a carer, has been awarded enhanced care and standard mobility PIP at Tribunal with no end date.

DLA had been stopped in the Summer, and we were asked to complete the PIP Form. The Benefit and Work Guide to PIP was most helpful. The Assessment was carried out by a Physiotherapist and I would question how many people with severe mental health problems she had met, let alone treated, in her clinical work.

The Assessment Report came back with zero points. It was also notable for the fact that the report under-estimated the actual dosage of anti-psychotic by a factor of three, and went on to say - again and again - this was a moderate dose. The actual dose is in fact the maximum dose for a person of that age.

Looking again at the Assessment Report, many of the phrases in "Justification for descriptor choice", are repeated again and again. A sentence like: "Reported difficulty is not on the majority of days inconsistent with MSE showing good concentration, memory and thinking." is to me, not quite english.

And "The claimant states medications helps her with her condition in medication history." again, is not really english - but because it is repeated many times is not a simple mistake either.

There are statements seemingly designed to bamboozle with quasi-medicalese: "Functional history shows no significant restrictions." Then there is a phrase with the wrong gender: "Hence it is medically reasonable that he can read and understand basic and complex written information..."

It is often remarked that reports such as these are "cut and paste jobs." I would however suggest that the method is even less labour intensive, and more "click to compile". There is an array of stock phrases listed by the side of each descriptor. Click on one or several, and the computer does the rest. After all ATOS is a computer company, and this was an ATOS report. ATOS is also French, which may suggest why the algorithms do not produce good english.

That's great news mm, thanks for letting us know :)

Well done to you and the person you support for seeing this through until the correct decision was reached.

Yes, I agree that compiling the report seems to be a matter of choosing from 'drop down boxes' so that the algorithm creates the report, no matter how little sense it actually makes.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
