Transferring from DLA to PIP was created by Lee
His everyone I'm a newbie here,so here goes, ive been caring for my wife for over 10yrs she was diagnosed with PTSD and agitated depression,I work shifts so the family and i help out with her care day and night, she's in receipt of ESA support group and was given indefinite DLA high care component and low mobility, over the years she's seen 2 psyciatrists, and has had 2 full sessions of CBT had numourous mental health professionals come and see her for months at a time, but unfortunately her mental health conditions remain the same, there's nothing more any medical services can do for her,so her only support service is her gp ( whom is very good)she's on stacks of antidepressants, anyway the letter arrived yesterday to inform us of the change to pip,it will be me filling the pip form in for her when it arrives,my question is (due to not having any other support other than her go) would it be a good idea to send letters she's had from psyciatrists and other services from over the years from when she first became ill ? I've letters stating that it's doubtful my wife will ever work again,I've letters from her occupational gp (my wife was a nurse for 25yrs) that stated she needed to finish work on grounds of her mental health, should I send all these documens or is it a waste of time, just looks a little odd requesting a sinle letter of support from her gp,any help gratefully received, and sorry I've gone on a bit x

Hi Lee and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

The criteria for PIP are very different from those for DLA or ESA. Have a good look at our PIP guide so that you understand the descriptors against which your wife will be measured. When completing the PIP2 form you will need to phrase it in a way that reflects these descriptors.

The guide also explains what information you will need to have to hand when you make the call to initiate the claim. Your wife will probably have to answer security questions first, then you should be able to continue.

PIP help for claimants

Many claimants have been 'parked' by the NHS because there is no further active treatment that can be given, so your wife will not be alone in having little medical evidence to send in support. To be of most help, letters from medics need to do 2 things - firstly, conform the diagnosis. Secondly, to explain the claimant's problems in carrying out the activities that the PIP2 looks at. Whether or not someone is able to work will not be considered, it is irrelevant to the PIP descriptors.

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions and comments relating to your wife's PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
