Pip Award was created by Marc
I have just moved over from dla to pip, i didnt have to attend a assesment, i have been awarded standard for both care and mobility, i scored 11 for care and 10 mobility, i suffer from severe depression and anxiety, i thimk i should have been awarded a few more points on the care part, is there anything i can do, or should i not rock the boat and accept the decision, they have also gave it me for 2 years, is this the norm. Thanks

Hi Marc and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I'm sorry that you did not get the award you hoped for.

I suggest that you sit down with the PIP guide and decide where you believe you should have scored extra points. Is there anything else you could say to explain this?

If you decide to take this further, your first step would be to request a Mandatory Reconsideration. This must be requested within 4 weeks of the date on the Decision letter. You can phone if you wish but we always suggest that you follow it up in writing (to the address on the decision letter). This is also explained in the PIP guide

PIP help for claimants

It will be helpful to get a copy of the assessor's report, if you have not already done that. DWP usually send them out on request. If it has not arrived in time, do not delay submitting the MR request as DWP do not have to accept it after 1 month. You can tell DWP that you will send in extra information when you have seen the report and they should give you some extra time.

Don't get too bogged down arguing against every thing you feel is not right. You will only be awarded PIP by showing how/why you meet the descriptors, so this is where you should concentrate your time and energy.

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
