1st phone call. was created by aqua65
Hi,
I received the letter telling me that my DLA benefit is being change to PIP.
The day I received the letter, the post arrived literally as I was leaving the house for the Airport to spend Christmas and new year in Tenerife over a 4 week period, I just put the letter unopened into my hand luggage.
When I opened it I read that I have to call with certain information by 1st January 2017. This will be very difficult for me to do as I do not have all the information needed to make the call.
Is there any way that I can get a delay until 20th January to give me the time to put together all the required information to be able to comply with what is required, I am back in the UK on 15th January 2017.
Is there an email address that I can contact the DWP office or Capita to ask this question. If not can you please make some suggestions on how I resolve this problem?

I am afraid that extensions to this part of the process are not available.

If you are unable to make the call by 1 January then your DLA payments will be suspended and a new deadline of 29 January (I would expect) will be set which you will receive notification of in writing in the New Year. If you start a claim for PIP by the new deadline then the suspension on your DLA will be removed and the process will continue, if you do not then it will be assumed that you do not want to claim PIP and your DLA claim will be closed.

If you can make the call by the current deadline then I would advise you to do so but if not then there is still a window for you to do so.

May I suggest writing for a PIP1 form. I know people have trouble getting this, I did myself but when it did eventually arrive I did have several extra weeks to send it back to them.

Maybe Aqua could write a letter explaining the situation and requesting a PIP1 form. This could be sent by email to a trusted friend or family member UK to print and post to the DWP by recorded delivery. It might arrive by 1st January and then even if they don't send the form out there will at least be evidence that an attempt was made to start the process before the deadline.

Hi Gordon,
Thank you for your speedy response. I will need to contact family back in the UK to try and get the required information that I don't have with me in Tenerife and make the call from here. Do you know how long this call can take as need to ensure I have enough euros to cover the cost?
Also when they send the first form to be completed is there a time limit on having to return the completed form by? The reason for this question is due to the fact that whilst returning to the UK 15th January I will be returning to Tenerife on 2nd February until 28th February. If I make the 1st call by 27th December will the form be waiting for me when I get back home on 15th January, as this will mean I can complete and return before I go back to Tenerife.
Thank you again for all your help,

The call should not be longer than 1/2 an hour.

The PIP1 will not be sent to you, it should be completed as a result of the call.

Once your claim has been started you will be sent a PIP2 to complete, it usually arrives 7-10 days after the call is made, you are normally given four weeks to complete this but a 2 week extension can be requested (and is usually given).

Hi Gordon,
Again thank you for your speedy response.
Did you read the comment from R? and is it feasable?
