Benefits and personal pension was created by Rabbit55
Hi,

I was tolded by a acquaintance that if you are under the qualifying age for Pension Credit and has applied for a personal pension while on means tested benefits; it will be fine and will not have any impact or reductions on benefits. Provided you don't touch the pension pot, is this correct?

I am getting conflicting information as I have checked with various sources thats says the opposite.

Can someone tell me which is correct?

Please advise and many thanks,

Rabbit55

I am afraid we cannot give detailed financial advice on the forum, you need to get face to face advice from a trained advisor. Do and internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.

It is my understanding that the DWP will disregard a pension not in payment until the claimant reaches the Qualifying Age for Pension Credit. Be aware that the qualifying age is based on the age of a woman born on the same day.
