The best way to deal with the assumptions that an assessor is likely to make is to pre-empt them in your PIP2, however, it is obviously too late for this. If they ask you about something then you can explain what you can do and what you cannot do, but if they do not ask you then you will only be able to deal with them if they impact on the Decision.

You cannot assume that the assessor is unqualified to assess you they will have met a standard set by the DWP, however, if you can show that their opinions of your capabilities are not reasonable in light of your conditions then you may be able to show that those opinions should be ignored, however, there is a fine line to be followed as you can also show that the assessment report is not fit for purpose and that a new assessment is required.

I would always recommend that claimants record their assessment, just don't expect it to have any major impact on what they say in the report.

I doubt very much that they will accept your own audio or video evidence.

Maybe not too late as I did pre-empt assumptions in my PIP2, by describing my health issues in detail, in relation to the descriptors, to the best of my abilities per your guide. (I don't know how well I've achieved this, as being asked to communicate difficulties in communication as not really an optimal situation.)

That said, it's a concern that eg a physiotherapist will totally ignore my statements in PIP2 and override them with the sort of observational comments I've seen in reports presented here.. eg regarding appearance, communication, sweating.

I thought autism was one of a number of life-long conditions that would no longer be tested for? Do you know when this becomes law?

I would always recommend that claimants record their assessment, just don't expect it to have any major impact on what they say in the report.

Would you say I still have time? The appointment is less than two weeks. I also don't want to risk an assessor cancelling the appointment resulting in rebooking because they refuse to be recorded as one chap mentioned here.

If you think it's a good idea I will phone ATOS now and follow with a letter.

Thanks Gordon

I don't think you are too late to request permission to record your assessment, whether it needs to be rearranged or not will depend on whether the assessor currently booked is prepared to allow this or not.

There are no plans for PIP assessments to be no longer required for certain conditions, this is for ESA only and there are no details of what conditions might be included.

Thanks..

I phoned ATOS last week to ask for permission to record the assessment and the person wrote and sent an email to the "HP" whilst I was on the phone - said assume if I heard nothing back it should be OK.

Today I called again, noting the time, and getting permission to record the call (agreed).. I explained and they went off to check.. a person came on and asked if I understood how it works - I said yes I've seen the website - they said great and the HP is 'more than happy' for me to record.

I'm going to struggle to get to the PO.. could get it in writing by email presumably.. but would you agree this is sufficient evidence to proceed?

TY

I did that. Thank you.

Would an HP allow me to play video evidence or show them photos of me being ill? If I end up having to appeal would I be able to submit that evidence then?

Thanks
