Personal pension affecting ESA was created by Chris
Next month when I turn 55 I could take my pension from Royal Mail early. How would this affect my ESA benefit if I where to take it next month?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Chris,
If you are on contributory ESA, DWP will disregard the first £85 per week, then you will loose 50p of ESA for every extra £1 of pension.
If you are on income-related ESA, this will be reduced £ for £ against your pension.

I thought that...........This rule does not apply if:
•you were in receipt of Incapacity Benefit before 6 April 2001
•your claim is made under the linking rules for Incapacity Benefit and links back to before 6 April 2001

Bertie
The rule only applies to pensions which were in payment at that time, not to ones that are started now.
