DLA to PIP when the time comes was created by Claire Cooper
Hi I am very new to this. My partner currently receives Disability Living Allowance medium rate care awarded to 2020 due to her severe mental illness, but as her carer I am awaiting for PIP form to be sent to us, which I don't know when this will be.
If and when she needs an face to face assessment which will be a home visit as she has severe anxiety, I would like the assessment recorded. What sort of recorded device do I need? And I presume I would have to pay for the items and not Atos/Maximus?
Also could I request for a GP who specialises in Mental health, as I don't want a physiotherapist who is doing a face to face assessment
Please any answers would be grateful.

Hi to everyone
I am very new to this.
My partner has severe mental health needs and is currently on DLA middle rate care and low mobility until April 2020, however due to PIP being reintroduced we are still awaiting a PIP form to be sent out to us.
As my partners full time carer I am concerned on how my partner will be when the time comes to have a face to face assessment, as she does not like males due to her horrendous past which has led her to her long term illness. My partner is housebound due to her significant anxiety. If I have to go out I do have to take my partner with me and this results in my partner soiling herself., So we will be needing a home face to face assessment.
My concern is that I want the whole assessment audio recorded. Do i need to provide all these for the assessment and where is the cheapest place to purchase them as I have noticed cassette recorders are not cheap to purchase.
Also my main concern is that the person who may assess my partner may not be trained with mental health. Surely there is a way I can ask for a GP who specialises in mental health. I am also concerned if the accessors and DWP decline her PIP. Surely evidence from her GP will be sufficant enough.
Any answers will be gratefully accepted.

If you want a home assessment then you will need your partner's GP to write to the Assessment Provider to explain why the cannot attend at their offices.

You will need to get permission from the AP (ATOS or Capita) in advance. You need two be able to record two cassettes of CDs at the same time, most members who have done this have used two cheap cassette recorders. You cannot make the recording digitally.

I'm afraid you get the assessor you are given, all qualified assessors are classed as being able to carry out a PIP assessment.

Ok thankyou for this. Unfortunately if the assessor is a male then I know my partner will lash out as she is afraid of males. So I do not know how this will go down at all.

In relation to your answer Gordon about all qualified assessor are classed as being able to do assessments. Yes you are correct, however a physiotherapist is not trained in Mental Health, and only specialise in how a person is able to move with injuries or back conditions.
Surely ATOS or Maximus would see on the form that due to her mental health an assessor who specialises in this criteria is better for her.
I think the whole system is bizzare.
You wouldn't expect a patient with say unfortunately cancer to be dealt by a assessor who is a chiropractor,
DWP, ATOS and Maximus really needs to get a grip
