PIP1 form was created by jej99
Hello

I have received the letter inviting me to claim PIP as my DLA is ending. My anxiety is through the roof at the moment and I have difficulty talking on the phone due to cognitive issues, so I rang the DWP to see if they could send me the form to complete. I was told that the advisors are not allowed to send forms out and that they all have to be filled in over the phone. Is this correct?

I understand that when the PIP1 is filled out over the phone it is sent to you to check and sign but I really have difficulty on the phone; I'm not trying to be difficult.

If it really has to be done over the phone then I will have to find some advisor to help and this will probably take time.

Thank you in advance. Oh I did record the call, I don't know if it helps or not.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

The option of using a form to initiate the PIP claim is supposed to be there. However, members who have gtried to do so have had considerable problems such that I have to recommend that you do so over the phone if there is any way you can do so!

The PIP1 form is no longer sent out for claimants to check and sign.

Have a look at our PIP guide so that you can see what information would be required over the phone, that might help you decide whether this is something you could possibly manage. As long as someone else has that information to hand, they would be able to take over the call once you had answered the security questions.

PIP help for claimants

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Well I went on the gov website and it stated that you could write in for a PIP1 form. I contacted the PIP claim line again and asked if I could write in for a form. The lady said no. I said it states you can on the website and she said it hasn't been updated but you can't write in for one. I gave up at this point and completed the claim over the phone.

I felt almost bombarded with questions. I came off the phone shaking and crying. To be fair the woman paraphrased the questions rather than just read them out and softened her voice when I became upset. I understand it's not her fault all of this.

So I shall wait for the PIP2 form now. Everything is being recorded.

Just an update; not he 4th April I received a letter from Atos telling me that they are requesting further information from the professionals listed on my form. Today (15th) They wrote to me with a F2F assessment date on 26th April. My main diagnosis is undifferentiated mixed connective tissue disease (basically I have rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus), so I have a host of related physical problems. My DLA award is middle rate care and high mobility.

Since I filled out the form I have been diagnosed with PTSD. Although the diagnosis is recent, I have been experiencing symptoms for many years now and I included them on the PIP2 form along with evidence that I was waiting for an appointment with First Step Cumbria, the local mental health service team. I am currently in therapy and at the moment I'm feeling very very low. These feelings have been exacerbated by the thought of an assessment. I will be contacting my GP on Tuesday because of these developments. My next appointment with my therapist is Thursday morning.

What do I do now? I really can't face travelling to Carlisle for the assessment. I am actually scared for my own safety. Could I ask for a home assessment, even though this will still affect my mental health? I stated on the form that I was scared about having a F2F as I am feeling very vulnerable. I would have to use public transport to get to Carlisle, as no one is available to drop me off and pick me up, which is about 50 mins each way plus a short walk. I have stated on the form that my mental and physical health problems mean that using public transport is physically difficult and can lead to me having a panic attack.

My therapist said a couple of weeks ago that he would be willing to write a letter laying out my mental health problems for the DWP, so I know I have some support there, but I really need to have a good idea about my options now.

God I'm 52 years old and crying like a baby

Yes you can request a home assessment but you will need the support of your GP who will need to write to ATOS explaining why you cannot attend at their office.
