Transfer from DLA to PIP. was created by jayjaybal
Hello, I'm back again! :)

When I was due to transfer from DLA to PIP I thought about all the horror stories I'd heard and after being told by my GP that he wouldn't provide a letter of support because 'that's not what the NHS is for' I phoned my local MPs office and had a chat with his assistant. He confirmed that they were more than happy to provide a letter of support.

I provided medical details with factual letters from consultants after appointments. Always a good idea to ask to be included when they send your GP a copy. I filled out the forms and sent them off. I advised that the MPs letter would follow, he was very busy indeed. I had to get back in touch with the MPs assistant about 2 weeks later and chase them up a little but I received it the following week. I then sent it to DWP who received it on Thursday morning.

The following Monday afternoon I received a phone call to say I could have a home visit the following morning if that was ok with me. I know you can refuse if you don't get 7 days notice but it works better for me if I have as little advance notice as possible, make myself worse worrying otherwise.

The assessor was a lady who was very nice and friendly, she was also very knowledgeable about my conditions. These appointments are never easy but she made it as easy as she could though she was still very vigorous in her questioning. Thank you very much and off she went. I thought it went as well as I could have wished and was relieved it was over with.

About 10 days later I received the dreaded brown envelope and was devastated to have been awarded nothing for daily living and low rate mobility. Talk about gutted. :( I then started to read the actual points awarded and realised I had 15 for daily living! WTH? Turns out it was a mistake, they hadn't copied the points across to the award letter or something. :side: Had my second award notice and was surprised to see that it's an ongoing award. B)

I am just finishing up my reconsideration letter because I think they've ignored the HPs advice on one of the mobility activities. I've been really ill, lots of tests and appointments but as long as it's with them on the final day it should be I should be ok. Fingers crossed.

Upshot is, if you plan on getting your MP involved give them at least two months before your app is due so they can send it to you too include with your application. Provide them with as much information and corroboration from consultants, GPs, surgeons etc. etc as you can and fingers crossed you'll have a similar positive outcome. :)
