Another PIP Medical Question was created by Jasmine3234
Hi

I have just finished the awful task of filling in the PIP form for the first time.
I have attached as much extra information as I can, but I did want to ask a couple of questions.

I have been awarded DLA High Rate Mobility and Care without a medical for three consecutive applications. My condition is very complicated and would be difficult to examine.

So my question is, how long is it taking on average for the DWP to request a medical (I cannot leave the house) and also, how long is a decision taking?

Sorry if I am asking the impossible, but I would like an idea.

Many thanks.

Most claimants receive an appointment for an assessment within 2-3 weeks and once the assessment is held a Decision usually takes about four weeks although there has been some variance in this.

Hi I am waiting for the outcome of my DLA to PIP transfer form.

If the assessors need a medical do they write to you, or phone?

Thanks

They are required to give claimants seven days written notice although this will include postage time. You may receive short notice invitations on the phone, if they have your phone number but you can refuse these without fault.

Hi, I have been getting awarded HR and HM DLA from my initial claim, then renewals, without a medical. I have recently had to apply for PIP.

I was horrified today to receive an appointment for a medical away from home. I couldn't have stressed enough throughout the PIP form that I am unable to leave the house, giving all the reasons why.

I spoke firstly to DWP who said I needed to phone ATOS to request a home assessment, but also that he would refer my claim for a paper based decision. I then phoned ATOS who said they would also put forward a request for a home visit.

I have been very distressed, but my questions are - do they actually read the full claim form before sending you for a medical? If so, they surely wouldn't expect me to attend a medical away from home. If a decision maker (as the man I spoke to today at DWP) is able to look at my form again, surely it hasn't been read thoroughly in the first place. I admit I wrote and sent a lot of information, but I thought that would be sufficient.

If anyone can help with a little more advice I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Based on what we have seen other members report on the forum and despite the fact that both the DWP and ATOS have said that they will look at the issue, I think it unlikely that you will get away without a face to face assessment.

A F2F is only ordered if ATOS are unable to make a recommendation to the DWP based on the information in and with your PIP2. Your case may be borderline and the DWP's intervention may push them to carry out a paper assessment, but be prepared for either the current appointment to be left in place (see below) or for a new appointment to be made at ATOS's offices.

If the current appointment is not specifically cancelled by ATOS then you must assume that it is still in place and you must either cancel it or attend, if you do not cancel and do not attend then there is a real risk that your claim will be closed by the DWP, whilst this would be an appealable Decision, it can take some time to correct the problem and that assumes the DWP accept your reasons for not attending.
