DWP asked for carer's no. & psych admission info

I called the DWP the other day and they completed PIP1 over the phone. They asked for my carer's phone number, which I gave them. (My carer is my sister.) They also asked whether I'd ever been admiitted because of a mental heath problem, to which I answered 'yes'.

As suggested in the B&W guide to PIP claims, I will ask my sister to write a letter to accompany my PIP2. But I'm worried that they will call her and ask her one of their appalling 'trap' questions which blighted so many WCA examinations. So I asked her not to say anything if they call, and to insist that all communication between her and the DWP is in writing. Is this OK?

It's unlikely that my sister will be able to accompany me to the face-to-face assessment. So they will probably never have a chance to question her. Is this OK?

As for the question about my psychiatric admission history...what do me make of it? I can't find it anywhere in the PIP1 form on the DWP site. Aren't all the questions supposed to be there?

I note from the B&W guide that in mental health cases a 'condition champion' may be picked to be my face-to-face assessor. Is this the whole story? If I was using the logic of someone like Iain Duncan Smith, maybe my advice to the DWP would be "don't believe anything on this person's claim form, he's mentally ill."

Maybe they will expect me to offer my psychiatrist as a source of info? If I don't offer a psychiatrist as a contact, could that weaken my claim? (I haven't seen a psych for 2 years, because there's a shortage of them in my area, and my current psych treatment is seen as probably the best that can be done for me. Last time I asked to see a psych I was sent to some sort of community nurse who triaged me and suggested that I take up volunteering to cheer myself up.)

Sorry for such a long, rambling post, I've tried to trim it.

As far as I am aware, information collected for the PIP1 is not passed to the Assessment Provider so I would not expect them to be able to contact your sister, however, it's perfectly OK for her to say that she only wants to be contacted in writing, nor should it be a problem if she does not attend the assessment with you.

The question about your psychiatric admission history is to determine if you would be at risk from being asked to go through the PIP process, it's difficult to say how this information is used as we have seen no evidence that it actually is from posts on the forum.

If you are claiming, at least in part, due to mental health issues then there will be an expectation that you will be able to provide evidence from MH specialists, but lots of claimants are "parked" by the NHS either because they are stable or increasingly because of lack of services, all you can do is explain your situation. I don't believe it will compromise your claim.
