Hi Gordon,
I'm sorry to ask another maybe stupid question.
I have been on to esa to querie my backpay because when I was put through to the support group on 14/11/16
I wasn't given a breakdown of how the backpay of £1335.61was broken down. I'm now told I was given 22 weeks & 5 days of the
Support component £36.20 x 22 weeks 5 days
Disability income guarantee £22.60 22 weeks 5 days
I have worked it out and this is exactly what was paid
The thing is I was awarded daily living from 19/09/16
So my husband started a claim for carers which was awarded from 19/09/16 but we didn't receive this money as we were on income related esa couple rate of £114.85 the esa department told carers to knock £41.25 a week off the award notice which was 6 weeks from 19/09/16 -30/10/16
So the awarded carers amount of £372.60 was reduced which was made up of £41.25 x 6 weeks = £247.50 the amount esa told carers to deduct. We received part payment of £125.10
by their own admission esa didn't start paying
extra money because your partner is a carer £34.60
Until 20th November I feel like they have swizzled us out of this amount they are saying we took that off you so you wouldn't have an over payment I'm sure this should've been paid they told me to go to citizens advice and they will explain it. I asked for a statement of reasons but doubt I'll get it can you help me make sense of it. Thanks

Many Thanks Cx

So you are happy that the ESA was paid correctly?

AS to the Carers and your ESA, the way it is worked out is that £62.10 is deducted from your ESA but is covered by the CA paid to your husband leaving no net change and then £34.60 is added to your ESA in regard the Carers Premium.

What the DWP are saying is that as they paid the full rate for ESA during the period during which the CA was being backdated that the Carers unit should deduct this from their back payments as in effect the CA was already paid, albeit as ESA. So it is just the Carers Premium that should be backdated.
