PIP MOBIILITY QUERY was created by Kk
Hi, I have had the dreaded letter arrive recently inviting me to apply for PIP. I have called up and waiting on the form being sent.

I am currently receiving HRC and HRM indefinite.

I am so worried and cant even sleep with worry. I am totally dependent on my mobility car and im now terrified of losing it.

I suffer from Bipolar Disorder, Fibromyalgia, IBS, psoriasis, Asthma, Arthritis of Shoulder & feet, TMJ (jaw)

I attend a psychiatrist and have a CPN.

Has anyone with the same conditions been successful? also, does anyone think I will get enhanced mobility to be able to keep my car.

many thanks in advance .

Hi Kk,

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

The criteria for PIP are very different from those for DLA and PIP was deliberately made harder to get - especially the mobility component.

PIP is based on a points system with 8 points needed for the standard rate award and 12 for the enhanced. These points are given for specific activities.

This is all explained in our PIP guide, so this is the first place to start.

PIP help for claimants

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Every one refers to the dreaded letter. Instead, look at it as a positive review of how your condition affects the way you live your life. When you have lived with limitations for a long time, often you will find ways to compensate and adapt. Talk to the people that know you best, their observations will help you see the things that you take for granted. Claiming PIP in a pain, but it is your chance to get the help you need. You are not alone, the guides and moderators here do a fantastic job and will help you through the process. good luck and stay strong.

many thanks

4 points seems to be what we see the most.

Hi KK

Its hard to read all the guides when anxious but with pain and Fibromyalgia its not whether you can walk far it's if it causes you severe pain breathlessness and can it be done safely reliably and in a timely fashion these are the words you must use repeatedly. Also you must state you cannot use public transport could cause psychological trauma or distress crowds automatic doors etc or emotional distress. If you prefer someone with you for familiar journeys then say so. If you need someone for unfamiliar journeys or you simply cannot plan an unfamiliar route then you must describe why. Could you get lost and need help but not confident to ask or maybe acute anxiety in unfamiliar roads. Get a letter or support note from Psychiatrist and CPN and take your time the advice really does help. Don't lose sleep there is good news in pipe line for lower mobility rates and grants for cars so its not all doom and gloom. You would get some help towards a car. I know it can be a lifeline to many. Good luck and sleep is important to tackle the forms
