After Transplant was created by BJ
I have recently been discharged from hospital after having a liver transplant, after having previously been diagnosed and treated for primary liver cancer, cirrhosis and hepatitis C. I am currently on the higher rate PIP and on ESA (support group, contribution based). I have to submit another DWP assessment questionnaire before 13th Feb. I undergo weekly outpatient clinic visits, and am awaiting treatment for Hepatitis C. Immunosuppressant drugs and hepatitis leave me physically in a condition where I am mostly in bed. My condition will require constant evaluation and monitoring for at least a year. I am 63 having previously worked as a landscaper, but will not be able to continue with this physical work due to the transplant (was self-employed). My PIP entitlement runs to 2019, and we use the motability part of the higher rate to enable hospital trips, GP, chemist etc. My questions are:
· Although having had a transplant, will my ESA/PIP benefits be affected
· Do I need to notify the PIP office after having submitted the latest DWP questionnaire?
· What is the likelihood of the PIP motability being withdrawn-I am still largely unable to walk any long distance
Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Just to confirm, your ESA claim is currently being reassessed and you are completing an ESA50?

I'm afraid it's impossible to say whether you ESA and PIP will be effected by the results of your surgery it will depend on how you previously qualified and whether you are still effected in the same way.

For your PIP I cannot tell you that you do not need to contact the DWP, that is a decision that only you can make, if your limitations in regard to each of the PIP activities have improved, then you are required to notify the DWP. If you do then you need to be aware that it will result in a full reassessment of your claim, new PIP2 and almost certainly a new face to face assessment.

Thank you Gordon. Not too sure that ESA is being reassessed, but did receive a new ESA50 in the post to complete. Orginally applied in Augustr 2016 granted contribution based, support group. My condition re activities is worse than pre transplant at present. Waiting on consultants input on the ESA 50 form then will submit..presumably this would also then be passed on to PIP from DWP? Thanks again for your assistance.

Do not assume that any information is passed between DWP departments! We always recommend that members send in any information they wish DWP know.
